Elements of Art
These are the building blocks used by artists to create works of art. (If you don't understand any of these terms - look them up now)

The principles of art describe the ways artists use the elements of art in their works of art. Often they are used to help create a better composition. (We will be learning more about the principles of design as we work through this class)
- Balance
- Contrast

- Variety
2D Design in AP is works of art that fall under the following descriptions
- work that employs line, shape or colour to create unity or variety in a composition
- work that demonstrates symmetry/asymmetry; balance or anomaly
- work that explores figure/ground relationships and occupied and unoccupied spaces
- development of a modular or repeat pattern to create rhythm
- colour organization using primary, secondary, tertiary, analogous or other colour relationships for emphasis or contrast in a composition
- work that investigates or exaggerates proportions or scale
