Gr. 10 Pre-AP Studio Art

Arrange natural objects to show radial balance.   Photograph this arrangement over time.  (suggested 3 photos) 

Task : Create an abstract wire sculpture that is made to be installed outside. Think about where it will reside and how that will affect the form. Make the armature with wire and use tracing paper or tissue dipped in watered-down-gel-medium. Step 1 : Begin this by drawing at least 3 different forms found in nature (trees, branches, pods, clouds, etc.). Select the most interesting form to create out of wire. Create some final plan drawings in your sketchbook. If you want to move towards a more representational piece, you may, just make sure you are working from your own photographic sources when ever possible.         Step 2 : Begin forming wire structure. 3D Principle to focus on -  colour/light, form, and plane.  Keep your form simple and structurally strong.  Step 3 - Use tracing paper dipped in watered-down-gel-medium and apply to form.  You could add colour as well to your work.     ...

1. Take a bunch of photographs of you or your friends making exaggerated facial expressions.  Make sure you take them from a variety of angels         2. In your sketchbook, draw 3 eyes, 3 noses and 3 mouths showing extreme expression.         3.  In your sketchbook complete some final designs for your ugly mug.  Make sure you think about the form of the actually mug.  How can you make it look interesting, unique and have form that occupies space in an interesting way. Complete the planning however you want to work in your sketchbook.    DUE Monday!

Add this to your answered questions from the videos we watched in class.  Repeated Paper Modules - Group Project (2 max)  Fold, curl, twist or crumple paper (magazine pages, printed out photos, maps, book pages, etc.) and create 30-60 of the same form (they can be different sizes). Glue the papers into either a 3D-sculptural form or a relief sculpture on painted cardboard.  This piece should emphasize  unity/variety and balance, and form Due End of Class Tomorrow   

Get into groups of 3-4 people.  Choose one of your artworks to present to the group.  Record your all of your group members answers for the following questions.  Remember the members in your group are answering the questions!  Initial Reaction  What is your initial reaction to the art piece? Does it remind you of anything or make you think of anything?  Analysis/Interpretation  What principles of design dominate the art work? How have they attributed to the design? Analysis/Interpretation How does the artwork connect with some aspect of your life? How do you interpret this artwork? Expression of Aesthetic Judgement  Do you find the art work successful? Why or why not? What could be improved or changed?
